Have you had the pleasure of taking a Kona Coffee farm tour on the Big Island of Hawaii? 

If so, than you might have recognized all of the hard work that goes along with being a Kona Coffee Farmer.

The coffee beans are hand picked at the peak of freshness.

Within 24 hours the fresh beans, known as "cherry",  are run through a pulper.  This separates the bean from the pulp.

Next, the beans are fermented, rinsed and then spread out to dry.  This can take anywhere from 7 to 14 days to complete.

From here, the beans are stored as parchment.  The parchment is milled off of the bean prior to roasting.

It takes 7 to 9 pounds of cherry to make 1 pound of coffee.
